Changing seasons, changing wardrobe

Autumn Equinox is this weekend, where the night equals the day (12 hours each), but then after this day, the nights become longer, and the days get shorter.

The days will get darker and colder, and we change our wardrobe accordingly. As the trees shed their leaves, so should we, and make preparations for the winter season. If you haven't already, its the time for putting your summer clothes to the back of the wardrobe, or under the bed, however you store them, and get out your winter clothes.
This week is London fashion week, launching designers Spring / Summer ranges for 2019. Fashion addicts may buy a whole new wardrobe for the new season, but I am an advocate of slow fashion, and will be getting out my favourite colourful woolies.
Its so blustery out there today, its making me think of a nice big warm woolly poncho. Not always the most practical piece of clothing, especially when riding a bike in the rain, I speak from experience, they get heavy. But great for sitting round a campfire on a clear winter night, which, living on a boat we do a lot of with our neighbours.
As we had one of the hottest summers in modern history, I celebrated it by permenantly wearing flip flops and shorts or dresses. I love dressing in the summer, fewer items to wear, wash and put away!
So what does Foxy lady wear when she isn't wearing flip flops? Well my between season footwear is sneakers, usually Converse or Sketchers.
Irredescent converse - super cute
Super comfy Sketchers

These are typical of the type of Converse I would buy, I do love a splash of colour. Mixed with some flared jeans and a colourful top, they jazz up a casual outfit, without much thought.
The Sketchers I have posted here I actually bought, for my Australia trip. I have to tell you, they are so comfortable they are like slippers, but look smart too.
Then as it starts to get colder and wetter, I will revert to boots. I love Dr. Martins for their funky colours and patterns, but I will admit they aren't actually my favourite to wear. I find them clumpy and uncomfy and can't be bothered taking them on and off, so I tend to wear them for a night out rather than all day (I also like things that slip on and off).
Funky funky DMs
Slip on Rocket Dogs

If I were going to get some new boots this year, I would definitely buy these sexy Doctor Martens, great for a night out. The Rocket Dogs, are similar to some Fly boots I have, great warrior style for demos.  All of the footwear featured are available at Schuh (my favourite shoe shop).
I am loving today, the weather is noticeably changing, and I am already feeling the comfort of having my home surrounding me. protecting me from the elements. I love the summer, i am a big sun worshipper, but I also embrace the winter months, hibernating indoors at times and mixing and matching layers when i go out.
layering is great, you can get a really individual look, especially if you chose the right things that compliment or even contrast each other.
I think my favourite thing to wear in the winter I'd a jumper or sweater dress with jeggings and boots. Simple, comfortable, effective, and still sexy if you go for fitted dresses like I do.
Personally in a morning I don't like to think too much about what I am going to wear, which why I like summer dressing more, so a good capsule wardrobe is essential for me. Often my outfit will be based around my footwear.

Whats boots do you like to wear?

  1. Great blog, I love snuggly winter clothing and hot summer outfits, but it is the inbetweenies that stress me. My favourite boots are a pair of much loved wine red leather Clarks boots, so comfy and stylish, weatherproof, and always get admiration, but after 14 winters they are now enjoying a well earned retirement. Wool or denim mini skirts, thick tights and boots, yeah.

    1. Sounds like you have your winter wardrobe sorted then. I am pleased you like denim minis, as I am planning to make some in a couple of weeks, as I have been donated a large roll of denim.
I am also pleased you are embracing 'slow fashion' and wearing the same boots for 14 years. Well done Clarks for producing such a sturdy pair of boots. thanks for your contribution Anon
